Dream Warriors is not perfect. If I spoke to any diehard fan of the series, I bet they would give me grief for liking this more than the first. Yes the first flick has a darker tone and Fred feels scarier, but it is also wildly inconsistent in quality. As this is my first time running through all of the movies, I have only seen 1, 2, and 3 so far, but I recall the first had some of the very best scenes and also things like oatmeal stairs, prop dummy mom, and a lot of awkward running.

Three is an imperfect movie that is consistently imperfect. It only goes a bit far with the expansion of the origin, but it was not so bad as to feel ruinous like a lot of the second movie was.

Oh and “dream deprivation” is a phrase nobody should ever say. The extra camp though? If we can forgive the silly budget stuff in the first movie then a Jason and the Argonauts style fight at the junkyard is hardly something to fuss about. Plus I like the idea more than what we got in two, it felt as if he wasn’t strong enough to fully materialize but could basically mess with the environment some. Oh and the wizard stuff? It made sense for that character, as they were giving all of the kids some sort of identity and he was a fellow dork.

I am going to be in a small crowd, but I kind of like Dream Warriors the most so far.

Deadpool 2 executes better than its predecessor, but it doesn’t really go far enough. The bond style intro with the Celine Dion original is fantastic and having a bit more of story this time went a long way. The gags are all a bit better and it feels more like a superhero movie with some teeth than the first flick did.

On its own it works well, but is also referential in mostly non-obstructive ways to the first flick.

I’m actually excited about this movie, even though I only initially tuned in as a way to waste some time. I heard the reviews, and I was ready for something bad. This isn’t that though. I thought the characters were great and the setting was fun. It is not a perfect movie but I hope there is a world where Jack Kesy gets to be Hellboy again.

The theme of masculinity runs through the film, and I can see a lot of people misplacing frustration at certain characters actions and missing the point. It is definitely more of a slow moving train, but its actors all do a job of carrying that pace.

I vibe hard with single location movies. Panic room is easily consumed and very rewatchable. There are clear mistakes that cut it short of something great, a few frustrating choices in an otherwise enjoyable flick.

Clever film with an interesting setting. Maybe break out pen and paper afterwards to make sense of it, if that is your jam.

The technology in Prometheus feels out of place, even considering a simple mining vessel in Alien vs this top of the line endeavor. I was willing to set that aside though, imagining that perhaps Scott wants each film to be far future technologically and is simply modernizing that.

Visually, Prometheus is no doubt impressive. Expansive shots and tightly framed ones mix with all sorts of effects to capture both the expansiveness and the claustrophobic feel of horror.

The problem with Prometheus is it feels like it is very uneven. At times it is brilliant and at others it falls on its face. The cast all does their part, nobody is a bad standout. Charlize Theron is the only one who initially comes across too mustache twirly, but that does not last past the opening.

I only took larger issue with the encroaching of the directors and films needs versus what made sense for the story. Most visible was how immediate everyone is prepared to remove their protective gear, and undoubtedly easier way to film but nonsense for a bunch of people only just landed on an alien planet.

Still, Prometheus is interesting and has a couple of moments that I feel could have been iconic if not tied to the larger whole of a film that from my understanding has been divisive amongst fans of Alien. I still want more and I am willing to give more rope for the philosophical elements it was proposing and mostly not answering. Hopefully the next movie grows this better. I commend Prometheus, at the very least, for not mimicking Alien or Alien 2. It is, as they were, unique.

A lot of charm and a great cast.

The story is enjoyable to watch and consider, but I think more impact could exist in various scenes if they were allowed to breath. Often things come across stilted by either delivery or a sense of immediacy in moving the plot along. How quickly awful things happen and ten seconds later acceptance emerges.

Watching Snyder’s interpretation of Manhattan is shocking, while here the story is laid out in a different order and it detracts. I am no Snyder disciple, but he has an eye for presentation that was sorely missed here.

I have Watchmen, in its written form, on my shelf. Maybe me two months from now will be reading it.

A mostly grounded experience that is carried greatly by Sandler with backup from Cheadle, Tyler, and Shadow of Colossus being notable cast. It is not an easy watch, it is heavy, but it is a worthwhile one.

The movie does lose a little of itself with the over extension of Burrows character Donna and an overly packed and overly aggressive courtroom scene that feels out of place.
